Chick peas are of hazelnut-like shape and are light yellow in colour. Their taste is nutty and their consistency crunchy. 

The normal cooking time for chick peas is 2-3 hours. Chick peas soaked in water for 12 hours only require 30-40 minutes. 

Chick peas are suited to use in stews, as an accompaniment to meat and in salads. Cooked chick peas can be roasted in a frying pan with oil the same as nuts.
